I am a dancer-meaning, I live for expressing emotion through movement and music (even if it's only in my head). My mother and her mother, and my daughter, are/were all dancers. I am also a scholar, and artist, a poet, a writer, a photographer, and a dreamer. I like talking a lot, too. Life should start with teaching our children as much about expressing oneself as one can, in as many ways, using as many tools, and in as many languages as possible. With the ability to express oneself, comes the responsibility of speaking clearly, enunciating, articulating, conveying, showing, demonstrating, and sharing what one is trying to communicate to others by practice, with the purpose of discovering truths about the world we lives in, and making what we have learned relevant-passing it on. Of course, only time will tell if we truly have something unique to say, helped any people understand the world better, or entertained anyone at all. In the meantime, we are trying to day more and become a better communicator, and blogs have a journal aspect to them, so they can be expected to have a personal slant. Mine are definitely opinionated, openly so, and one of my goals it to try to say effectively, and honestly what I think or feel keeping in mind my own ethics, as I am aware other people might read it. Minds change everyday, and feelings do too. Outside experiences shape us, and it is terrible not to write because you might worry that you would offend someone, just as it would be terrible not to dance because you want to lose weight, first.

Joffrey: History of The Joffrey Ballet

In 1956, six young dancers made up what was then known as the Robert Joffrey Theater Dancers, an ensemble that toured around the United States in a borrowed station wagon pulling a U-Haul trailer filled with costumes and recorded music. Their mission was to spread an interest in classical ballet to areas that may not have ever seen it performed. Led by fellow dancer and budding choreographer Gerald Arpino, they danced in school gymnasiums, on university campuses and in small town theaters while their namesake stayed behind in New York City to run his studio and make money to pay the dancers’ salaries. From this meager beginning, the company rose to prominence as one of the major forces in American dance.
